Richard, this is such a beautiful poem. Though I’m not religious, per se, I am very spiritual, and know in my heart that your wife was there with you in that moment, and continues to be. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
Merry Christmas to you and yours.

You had me at ‘mental helf’! You’re a comic genius and a great writer, my friend…A fantastic Christmas story you’ve created. It should be granted ‘The Night Before Christmas’ status!
Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year to you and yours. :-)

That lullaby has been sung in my family for generations, and I had no idea Bing Crosby sang it in a movie. I sing it to my grandbabies! And I had no idea what it means. Thank you, Phil! :-)

No wonder the Grinch is after Santa! He gets blamed for everything…Adorable story, Phil. I was initially perplexed by the ‘seals swimming in the hall’ until I remembered that seals are symbols of Celtic folklore, with many different interpretations. I can see where several may apply to your story.
Great piece, as always. Ho-Ho-Ho! :-)

Do I sense a touch of arachnophobia, my friend? Ever since reading Charlotte’s Web, I’ve had a strange affection for spiders, so I probably would’ve preferred to find it very much alive. Now, if I saw a strange looking bug caught in the webbing, dead or alive -that probably would have given me the willies! ;-)
In only two stanzas you were able to grab my attention, and I felt as though I was there with you, peering at the web and its creator. Great piece, John. Thanks for the little adventure!

So funny, Phil. Another great one! I started laughing the moment I read the title. But as badly as I feel for Nysolph, I feel worse for poor Rudolph, having just come out of the penitentiary, and all —I mean, can’t a guy catch a break?

Mission accomplished!
I think it also makes the reader look more closely at what you’re saying in each stanza. At least that was my experience.
I didn’t know that about WWI poems. Will look them up. :-)

This is a very good question you raise in this piece, Karl. Those of us from New Jersey have been living under surveillance for several weeks now. It’s unnerving to say the least. Has every last morsel of privacy been taken from us? It feels like a strange experiment were a part of and we’re under the microscope.

Poor Rudolph! I hope nothing terrible happened to him in the penitentiary. And I hope we don’t have to wait too long to find out…Another wonderfully witty, well written work of art. Thank you for the chuckles, Phil. Merry Christmas!
