The Vampire's Unforgotten Story Page #6
This is a snippet to my story that I am writing, but I have been working on this for so long, and I'm really proud of it. It is about a vampire who is recounting the stories of his life, to a reporter but she gets a different story than her father did.
“I’ll make this easy,” “he whispered, his voice a soothing caress.” “Trust me, Damien. I won’t let you fall.” “My breath hitched in my throat as I nodded, unable to speak. There was no going back now. The decision had been made, even if part of me was still unsure, still afraid. But I couldn’t resist the pull any longer.Nikolai leaned down, his lips grazing the curve of my neck. I tensed, expecting the pain, bracing for it. But when his fangs sank into my skin, it wasn’t the sharp, violent sensation I had imagined. It was gentle, almost tender—a slow burn that spread through me like warmth on a cold night. A soft gasp escaped my lips, and I reached out, grabbing onto his arm, not out of fear but out of need. It felt like a current had been unleashed inside me, a pulse of energy flowing through my veins as he drank from me, drawing me into something deeper, something irrevocable. Everything around me began to blur—the room, the carnage, the pain. All that remained was the steady beat of my heart and the feeling of Nikolai's presence surrounding me, holding me up as my body weakened.” “I’ve got you,” “he murmured against my skin, his voice soothing, his arm wrapping around me to keep me from collapsing.” “Let go. Let it all go.” “I felt a strange pull, like the world was slipping away, taking the weight of everything with it. My past. My father’s cruelty. The anger. The hurt. They all began to fade into the background, replaced by something new. Something strange but powerful. It wasn’t just that I was losing something; I was gaining something too. When Nikolai finally pulled away, his eyes glowing with a soft, otherworldly light, I felt different. My body sagged against his, and my legs nearly gave out, but he was there, catching me, holding me up as the last of the human part of me faded away. I blinked, disoriented. The world around me felt sharper, more vivid. My senses were heightened—the smell of blood in the room was no longer nauseating but intoxicating, and the faint sounds of the world outside felt louder, clearer. It was as if I was waking up for the first time, seeing everything through new eyes.” “Breathe,” “Nikolai whispered, his voice still soft, still guiding.” “It’ll pass, I promise.” “I took a shaky breath, feeling the strange new energy coursing through me. My heart had slowed, but I could feel the power pulsing beneath my skin, something ancient, something I hadn’t known was possible. Nikolai brushed a strand of hair away from my forehead, his touch lingering.” “You’re one of us now,” “he said, his voice laced with something deeper—pride, maybe even affection.” “You’ll never have to be afraid again.” “My gaze met his, and for the first time, I saw something in his eyes that I hadn’t expected—care. Not just for what he had turned me into, but for who I was. The boy from New Orleans. The one who had been lost for so long. A strange calm settled over me, and I found myself nodding.” “I chose you, Damien,” “Nikolai said again, his voice a low, reassuring hum.” “And you chose me. We’re bound now. Forever.” “I closed my eyes, my body still trembling as I clung to him. The fear, the uncertainty—it was all still there, lingering at the edges of my mind. But so was something else. A quiet sense of belonging. Of purpose. And for the first time, I allowed myself to feel it.” “And that’s the nature of my transformation.” 7’’ Hayley’s POV I sat quietly, taking in the story I had just heard. My expression was a mix of surprise, fascination and a hint of worry. “That sounds… Intense.” I said quietly, my voice a little strained. “You were really changed in a single night?” “I was, like I said, the story of my transformation is certainly something that an artist would love, they would find inspiration in my pain.” As Damien spoke, I listened intently, trying to imagine the events he described. I watched his expressions change as he recalled the experiences that had shaped him, the pain and the struggle. He had been transformed from a human into something else, a creature of the night, with powers and strengths I couldn’t fully comprehend. It sounded terrifying, the idea of being forcefully changed into something against one’s will, but there was a note of something else in his voice, a strange sense of…. Acceptance? Damien’s gaze met mine, and I suddenly realised I had been lost in thought, not quite listening to his words. I shook my head slightly, silently apologising for the momentary distraction. “Sorry,” I mumbled, feeling a little embarrassed. “I lost track for a moment. What were you saying?” Damien chuckled softly, a warm smile playing on his lips, “I can tell when you’re spacing out,” he said, his voice light and affectionate. “You get this little frown right here… and your eyes glaze over.” I blushed slightly at his observation, feeling a little self-conscious. “I didn’t mean to,” I protested weakly. “I was just… thinking.” Damien nodded, studying me carefully. “About what I just told you?” he asked, his tone gentle but with a hint of curiosity. “Yeah,” I admitted, feeling guilty for not paying attention. “I guess I was just trying to wrap my head around it all, you know?” He watched me, and then leaned forward in his chair, smiling. “Close your eyes.” I raised an eyebrow at his request, a bit surprised. “Close my eyes?” I echoed, a hint of curiosity in my voice. “Why?” “I'm going to teach you how to close your mind, so I can no longer read it. Close your eyes.” I hesitated for a moment, feeling a bit sceptical. But then I remembered the strange connection between us, and the fact that he could sense my thoughts. Reluctantly, I closed my eyes, feeling a bit self-conscious. “Now, try and focus on your breathing and nothing but that, your mind will relax and slowly empty your mind.” I did as he said, taking a deep breath and then slowly letting it out. I focused all my attention on the rise and fall of my chest, the flow of air into my lungs and out again. At first, my mind was full of stray thoughts, but slowly, they began to fade into the background. “Try to not let your curiosity get the better of you.” I tried my best to push away my natural curiosity, but it was challenging. The more I tried to ignore it, the more it seemed to tug at the edges of my mind. I took another deep breath and focused on my breathing once more, trying to keep my mind empty and clear. “That’s good.” his voice broke through the silence, his words of praise making me feel a little more confident. I kept my eyes closed, my focus still on my breathing, but I could feel his gaze on me, watching me intently. “Open your eyes.” I slowly opened my eyes, meeting his gaze. He was watching me closely, studying my face, looking for any signs of progress, I assumed. A small satisfied smile tugged at the corners of Damien’s mouth as he nodded. “You’re doing well,” he said quietly, his voice warm and encouraging. “It’s not easy to clear your mind, especially not the first time you try it. But you’re doing good.”
