THE PROUD CAT Meoow-Meoow…The unmistakable, long, low, guttural sound of the cat bringing her prize to the door. Meoow, Meoow, “come see what I have brought you, look at how clever I am. Aren’t you proud of me?” The cat gets a nod of approval, and not wanting to hurt the cat’s feelings, there is usually a “good kitty” as the cat is quickly shooed away, and the door is closed before there is a chance that proud kitty will prance in with her prize. I am that poor cat. I continue to bring my “prey” to the front door looking for approval…waiting for the praise to follow. I write stories. At least I try to write stories. I love the writing, and the rewriting and the quest for perfection. I love it when the words weave together and softly float off the page. When I have achieved something that I rather like, I morph into that damn, proud, (dumb), cat and drop my crumbled paper at the doorstep of any family, who just might find my words worth reading and worthy of praise. Why do I continue to drag my half dead bird to their doorstep? I think I know the answer. I am the baby of the family. I was the cute little ditzy one. I could never quite hit the same bar my siblings hit. I was too short…literally and figuratively. But, in truth, I don’t think I actually ever really tried. I was completely content just being me... I lived in my own world and was quite happy there. And I am actually quite happy just being me now. Being me now, means learning to accept all of the parts that make up “me” …the ditzy little sister, the me who lives in my own world, and the me who can create and write a story. I still live a bit in my own world. But now it is time to share that world with others. So, like the cat with her prey, I will continue to carry my words to my family’s doorstep hoping that one day I will hear, “good girl…what a good kitty you are”. Meoow-Meoow.

I love how the author uses their own personality as the main character. Books like these are very unique and have a beautiful plot.
