The Last Note
In the dim corner of an abandoned concert hall, a violin sat propped against a shattered chair, its strings slack and voice long silenced. Its last owner, Eliza, had vanished years ago, leaving behind whispers of her haunting melodies that could enchant even the most unfeeling heart. Tonight, under a full moon that seeped through broken windows, a young boy named Arlo discovered the instrument. He’d heard the tales, scoffed at them, but desperation drove him to steal moments in the hall. With trembling hands, he plucked a string. A single note echoed—clear, otherworldly, alive. Shadows rippled along the walls like forgotten dancers. The air thickened, carrying whispers. Eliza's voice. “Play.” Compelled, Arlo dragged the bow across the strings. Music erupted, wild and untamed, unraveling memories not his own: Eliza, her laughter, her heartbreak, the fateful night she played until her spirit fused with the violin. The room grew cold. Each note sapped Arlo's strength, binding him. His fingers, though aching, refused to stop. The final crescendo wove their souls together, and the violin stood silent once more. By dawn, the hall was empty, save for a violin with taut strings and a faint warmth in its wood. The music lived on.
