One Hop at a Time.
A short story about a frog who learns to not overexert himself!
Sapo, the frog, woke up with a pep in his step that day! While reading the morning newspaper, the comics, of course, he just knew that today was gonna be great! It's so great that, in fact, he decided to hop all the way to the grocery store! The shop was 4 leaps away from Sapo's house, so Sapo got his list and left the house. After he said his hellos to his neighbors, he hopped 4 times to the shop. Normally, that would take all of his energy, but that day Sapo felt fine, not tired at all! After he got his groceries, Sapo decided that because it was such a beautiful day, he should go to the cafe! The Cafe was 6 hops away, and on any other day, that'd be way way too many hops for Sapo. But he felt okay using all these hops. It was such a beautiful day, after all! He would feel terrible if he didn't fully enjoy it. Hopping 6 times to the cafe, Sapo felt a pain in his legs but decided to ignore it! It was such a gorgeous day! Why let some pesky pain mess it all up? After he got his fill of lily pad tea and turtle shell soup, a unique taste, Sapo decided to go to the pond! The pond was 10 hops away, which wasn't bad for a good day. Normally, it was a lot for Sapo. But who cares if he couldn't hop this much on a normal day? He had to push himself today. He couldn't, wouldn't, let this be spent like every other day! even if his legs hurt, he leaped all the way to the pond. When he got there, Sapo stared in awe. It was a beautiful sight, Sapo didn't see the pond as often as he would've liked, but maybe if he pushed himself like this, he would be able to? Just then, Sapo fell on the ground. His legs hurt so much, but he didn't understand. He pushed himself today. He did a lot more things! If he did such a great thing, why did it hurt him? As he heard people walk by, he cried for help, just then, Mrs. Dragonfly saw the state Sapo was in and called for help. "Oh Sapo, what happened?" She asked, sitting next to him. "Well, today seemed like such a beautiful day! I wanted to go out. I didn't want to spend it like any other day." Sapo said, staring down. "That doesn't mean you have to push yourself over your limits!" Mrs. Dragonfly said, holding Sapos' hand. "but I don't wanna waste my time while I could be hopping everywhere!" Sapo argued. "Sapo, you don't need to hop everywhere to have fun. You need to take breaks. Don't push yourself!" Looking Sapo in the eyes, Mrs. Dragonfly smiled. "You don't need to push yourself to do all these things at once. Take your time!" Smiling at Mrs. Dragonfly, Sapo nodded, and he understood now. It's okay to not have energy. You can take your time. In fact, you can take one hop at a time!
