My teenage life as a lesser lifeform
Autumn 24
My teenage life as a lesser lifeform. He didnt know how but through requesting different cabins all the time he found the one he wound up in the worst one. But each night he would tell his bunkmates a story around a campfire. But each time he began it always ended up the same: YA and fantasy leaning on horror. “There is great magic in this world,” someone started mocking him. “Think I can’t do the same thing” He challenged him. “There are banshees born in november air.” He fluttered like he had fake wings. “There are trolls with mucky backs. And, bats the size of humans that suck your very life away.” He smiled at his own jest. “There are witches that can see the stars even with blind eyes.” “There are werewolves like the Lions of the jungle.” Mouse’s eyes sharpened. I’m sorry I'm nerdy Mouse thought. “There are mages that can ignite your heart by pinpointing it.” “That on was-” “Shut-up, Mouse. Why do we even bring you to these things…” said the challenger nudging his friend.” Mouse was bigger than. Too big for his size. “I know why we brought him.” said the challenger’s friend, “Because he is the special.” That is when the kids all blew up with laughter: “like he could ever be” said one. Which caused Mouse to summon up all his creative energy. “Come on fellas I have a story for you.” Everyone was ready to dig their heels into his pride. “Come on let’s hear it.” Came the response. “Not everything in this world is magical, but some things you can draw energy from like fire and holy water and garlic are magical things they are something like plants for your people.” “So their lesser life…” is what one kid said. “Sometimes a baby is born between a human and a magical being or a mortal, and magical energy. Mouse eyed the crowd, and his keen eye picked out the one girl in the crowd. He cocked an eyebrow at her. And, she giggled. “Ever wonder how people and shadows got along.” “Enlighten us, Mouse.” Was the challenger's response. “They move from corner to corner. Ever watchful and when you least expect it they attack.” Mouse elongated his shadow with what looked like a moon behind his mid back. The expressions on the kids face got bigger and bigger. All of the kids save one screamed and ran away. The girl he had winked at and she was trembling, but she smiled her bravest smile and said. “So your a lesser lifeform” she said “Yeah” he said, “I’m a lesser lifeform” Mouse was getting mocked at camp a lot which is why his friends decided to do something. The challenger was in on it. One friend behind him carried a moon flashlight to shine on his back and elongate his shadow. The scared girl was one of them. She was messing with him because she thought he was cute. And after that stagnance and passion was awakened.
