When I was 7, I met my guardian angel. It was Easter morning. My sister and I were walked up our hill, by a very gentle man in a trench coat and hat. I remember him dropping us back at home, then waking up and going for our Easter baskets. My sister said she remembered none of it. All my life I knew it happened. Years past. I had my own family and son Alex. It wasn't until the day Alex was in the hospital, the memory of that Easter morning came to mind. Alex had swallowed a little plastic piece while hanging out with a buddy. It lodged in his right lung. We were advised to have it removed to avoid infection. A few weeks later, there we were at the hospital. Alex had an idea what was happening, yet we tried to keep his mind off it. It was just 6:30 pm when they brought the gurney in. One look at it and Alex lost it. Kicking, screaming, crying. Doing anything he could to avoid that bed on wheels. Alex's father had to carry him to the operating room. The three of us were trying to get down the hall, while our son was hysterical, crying and kicking and screaming. As we past an elevator, I saw a priest and an older gentleman in a hat and tan coat. We all nodded at each other as a polite gesture. I asked my husband if he also saw them getting off the elevator. Steven said he had seen them. At that same moment, as we passed those men, Alex coughed up that little plastic piece right into my hand! Not 10 seconds later, I looked back and they were gone. Vanished, no where in sight. We got to the nurses station. The first thing we did was to show them that Alex had just spit that plastic piece up, then quickly asked, "where did the priest and gentleman go that just got off the elevator"? They looked puzzled and said, "no one has used that elevator today". Steven and I looked at each. I had to ask Steven again, "you did see them too, right?" He nodded yes. We were both overwhelmed. The doctor came out, said he had never had this happen before, a patient simply coughing up something lodged in their throat! Adding we could take our son home! Alex had fallen asleep on the way home. That's when it hit me! I realized the man in the trench coat and hat was my gardian angel!! Protecting my son! I burst into tears and was so full of hope and love! Later, I told my son this story, about the love we were all shown, and how wonderful it was then and today.. The love we have for each other and our higher power! Believe!! L.L.5/24
