Forgiveness Page #2
Autumn 24
I awoke with tears streaming down my face and my arm trying to cover the flow of tears falling down. “Marlene…” I checked my phone to see the time and it was eleven in the morning. Sighing I rolled over to the other side of the bed, where my wife would lay. I glanced at her nightstand and saw a folded white sheet of paper lying there. “Strange…who put that there?” Sitting up I reached over to take the folded paper. I opened it and it read, “ Dear, Charlie I don’t blame you for the person that you’ve become. I forgive you with all of my being. The man who hurt me was not you. That was not my Charlie. I hoped that in time you would cut down on the drinking, but sadly you didn’t. I wish you could have realized how hurt I was emotionally to see you change. I hope when you begin to realize, you don’t blame yourself for what happened. Regardless, I’ll always love you. –M” My body trembled, gripping onto the piece of paper. I began to sob again like the night before. I fell to my knees and choked out, “My Marlene.” I wished that I realized sooner.
