As a young girl, I was introduced to Shel Silverstein by my 5th grade teacher and fell in love with poetry and writing in an instant. Writing holds space for me to be vulnerable and provides me a platform for my voice to be heard. I am grateful for the outlet of writing to not just process my emotions and thoughts but also to share as a gift to inspire others on their journey.

I chose this poem because the writer took me on a journey of the common humanity of the individuals stages of life. So many emotions arose within me as I read each stanza- sometimes joy other times shame and fear but mostly importantly - gratitude for this shared human experience. Well done!

I enjoyed the simplicity of the message for the need of unity through the use of a visual description of its antonym. Well written.
