Windmaster Page #3
In this fictional story, I did my best to combine plot action with strong family relationships. Nature has always fascinated me; my curiosity is endless.
Spring 24
“What?” The first officer raised an eyebrow. He crouched next to the slumped figure of Cayn Wrot, and the second joined him after a moment. “You know,” Alena added, “he looks kind of familiar. His face.” She squinted. “Hmm…” “Familiar? From where?” The second officer inquired. Alena waited another second before answering. She snapped her fingers. “*Locnews*!” “*Locnews*?” echoed the first. “It’s a newspaper. Local plus News equals *Locnews*. But that’s beside the point. Four years ago, in 2024, I read a story about a Cayn Wrot, a police officer who got four-year jail time because he tried to rob the local bank and then burn it down. There was a picture.” She tilted her head thoughtfully. “Looks like he dyed his hair, scrubbed himself up a bit; you know. Simple changes.” She looked up with a slight frown. “I thought he couldn’t work as an officer anymore because of his record?” The two officers shared a look. The first opened his mouth silently, then closed it. The other turned to me and said, “Young lady, thank you for closing this case for us.” “You see,” the first explained, “when our manager hired him, we had our initial curiosities, but she assured us that he was honest, and that we needed to get an eye check. So, we didn’t look closely.” “But apparently she was bribed into covering up for him, because she is normally a pretty loyal person,” the second continued. “However, she could never resist the promise of wealth because she grew up poor. Yet that’s irrelevant. She can’t continue to pretend with an outside opinion like yours. Will you help us plead our case?” the first concluded. Alena suppressed a full grin into a slight smile. “For sure.” - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - A FEW HOURS LATER - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Alena and the two officers, whom she now knew were Albern Jackson and Vincent Marquen, emerged from the local jail, where Wrot was imprisoned for fraud and bribery. For accepting the bribe, the police manager was fired and made to hand over the money. Alena’s pendant was reclaimed. The winds were calmed. For now, Alena’s secret was safe.
