The Vampire's Unforgotten Story Page #8

This is a snippet to my story that I am writing, but I have been working on this for so long, and I'm really proud of it. It is about a vampire who is recounting the stories of his life, to a reporter but she gets a different story than her father did.

“And what was that?” My father had asked, and I was intrigued to know too. What could he possibly turn himself into to hide his weakness, his flaw. “Pride.” He said confidently, which was completely different to the tone he had just spoken in. “I turned my weakness into Pride.” the honesty of his words, cut through the air, a confession of his transformation from also being weak, and turning it into something that masked his own insecurities into arrogance and pride. It was clearly a defence mechanism, a way to protect himself, a way to stay strong. “My brother on the other hand, was not so successful.” his voice sounded weary, and tired having to replay these memories that were clearly so dear to his heart. “What happened?” my father had asked, the soft prompt for the next part of the story, and I silently cursed my father for doing that, knowing the pain that Damien was already in. “We were sitting at dinner,” Damien said, his voice trembling, “And my brother was being smacked across the head…” The picture then was formed in my head, and I wished it wasn’t. I imagined Damien sat with his family, and his younger brother sat there fidgeting, his ticks earning him punishments, “My brother you see, he had this nervous tick, with his hands, and everytime he did he got smacked behind the head by my father.”
