The table Page #2
Summer 24
A few years later there is another addition to the family. The daughter has a wonderful baby boy. They come over and sit around me and talk, play games, eat, and tell stories. My chairs are full at times with these wonderful little boys, and I love having the daughter, her husband, the oldest son, and the mother and father together. The time spent around me is a lot less, but when they are all around me it is a wonderful feeling to see everyone together. Years later there is yet another addition to the family. The daughter has another beautiful baby boy. My chairs are now overflowing at times. The new child is a lot like the youngest son. He has a lot of attitude and likes to hit me, slobber, and chew on me just like before. It almost hurts at times how much he reminds me of the youngest son. I am not going to complain at all this time. I still remember how much I miss the youngest son doing it to me. I love watching the daughter and her family grow and how they all come together to sit around me as a family. I am watching the boys grow up and spend time playing games, coloring, playdough, Legos, and all kinds of activities on me. There are meals, fighting, discipline, stories, and work still done upon me. It is wonderful to see the family together. I have watched this family from the beginning. I watched them learn how to be a family. Mother, a father, a daughter, the oldest son, and the youngest son. I have seen them go through some of the most wonderful times together. Loving, laughing, playing, and enjoying life together. I have also seen them at the worst time in their lives. They have been though more pain and suffering than anyone should ever have to go though in their lives. The one thing that I have noticed is that they have done it together as a family and have stayed together though all of it. They still manage to find time for everyone to get together and sit around me and just all be together. I have learned that no matter how many people are around me that I will always have an empty chair. That seat will never be full no matter what. I have also learned that that is also not a bad thing, as long as there is that feeling of an empty chair, it means that the youngest son will never be forgotten. I realized this whole time I was focusing on the chair being empty, but by remembering that that chair is empty it will always be full.
