The Juneteenth: All You Need to Know About Juneteenth

n the United States, Juneteenth is a federal holiday honoring the liberation of African Americans from slavery. On June 19, 1865, Union Army General Gordon Granger issued General Order No. 3, which declared emancipation for slaves in Texas. This day is known as Juneteenth. [7] Since its inception in Galveston, other regions of the United States celebrate the event on June 19 every year, often by generally honoring African-American culture. After the efforts of Lula Briggs Galloway, Greshun De Bouse, Opal Lee, and others, the day was officially declared a federal holiday on June 17, 2021, when President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act into law[8][9].
