None Yet! Page #3
This is only a terrible first draft, but I wanted to enter it... (:
Suddenly, the sky tore open and rain pounded down. In between the lighting and the thunder, they started running. The trees shook viciously with the sudden wind. "Go quickly!" River shouted over the booms of thunder. "That wasn't on the radar, that's for sure! Just a rainstorm!" River murmured under his breath. The grass whipped around their soaked feet, and leaves fell from waving trees above. Mist looked over to River, whose eyes were darting between Mist and Droplet and the occasional falling branches. When River saw Mist glancing, he quickly turned his concerned face into an unconvincing smile and nodded, as if it was a daily fun run in the storming forest. In the light of a nearby arc, Mist saw a muddy, wet rabbit hop into his den as a branch crashed down nearby the hole. Droplet and Mist connected eyes for a second, sharing glances. Mist, Droplet, and River were soaked to the bone but kept towards the house. The rain still poured down and it was hard to see in front of their feet. A muffled exclamation was heard and the siblings both looked at River. He wore an expression of relief and he glanced at Mist and Droplet. “I can see the house ahead, only a little bit more!” he shouted. Soon enough their muddy feet felt the familiar stone walkway to the house. Mist and Droplet cheered. “We’re home!” When they reached the door it opened and a surprised Birch appeared. The wet bunch smiled at the sight of Birch. Birch beamed in relief. “Come on in!” As they caught their breath they shuffled into the house. “Look at you all! I think this is the first time I've seen you so drenched River!” She waved her finger, “Tsk tsk tsk! Always check the skies!” Birch went away for a second and came back with towels in hand. She handed them out to three grateful people. Mist and Droplet sat down on their towels and were flipping through their wet notebook pages nervously. “That rain poured down really hard! ” Mist said, thinking of the rabbit. “Yeah..” Droplet replied. “Our notebook got pretty wet, but I think we can still use it when it dries. ” Mist nodded and got up, walking over to the kitchen, putting the notebook next to the wood stove. “That was quite a storm!” Birch said, talking to River, who was wiping his sopping wet face with his towel. “Biggest one in a long while… Thought it might be something bigger than a thunderstorm for a second there.” He replied. Droplet walked away from the parents, wrapping her towel around herself and her wet clothes like a greek robe. “Should we get back to working on it after we dry off?” Droplet announced. “Sure!” Mist declared in answer. Soon the two siblings were back to work again. The rain pelted against the window, but failed to get in the snug house, a perfect time to write. The twins murmured, suggesting lines and acting out bits in character. Sitting next to the woodstove, they cozily talked. “Suppose we change this..” Mist said, barely audible, pointing to a line on the lined pages of a pad of paper. “It would make more sense if that line was said after the battle.” Mist looked to Droplet for affirmation. “Ahhh.. Good idea…” Droplet nodded, flipping the pencil to the eraser side.
