Lucy In The Sky Page #2
Lucy Noel, a young adult diagnosed with lung cancer, is ready to make peace with the world. But once she finds her beau, Arlen James, she finds that life is worth living, even if you’re dying. Make the best of your life on the planet so you can go out with a bang.
After she was discharged from the hospital, her mom had called and wanted her to come visit. "Why, mom? I'm tired, sick, and just got out of the hospital," said Lucy. "Just swing by, baby girl. Please. I have a surprise for you!" Lucy hated surprises, and her mother knew that about her. But Lucy went ahead, after all, it was obviously always all about her selfish mother. As she arrived, Lucy noticed many cars surrounding her parents' house. "Oh, God. What the hell did she do!" Lucy thought to herself. As she came in through the back courtyard, nearly all of her old high school friends were there. But most actually weren't her friends. Most she despised. She got bullied almost every day in school, and most of these people were her bullies. Lucy did not appreciate this at all. "Hey, Lucy!" "Hi, Lucy!" "What's going on, Lucy?" Lucy tried to escape into the house as quick as she could. But she couldn't stop avoiding everyone and their mom asking how she was doing and telling her they miss her. Lucy was well ready to do herself in at this point. As she finally got inside, her mom came up to her. "Oh, Lucy. I missed you so mu-" "Mom!" Lucy interrupted. "What the actual f*ck! Do you realize who these people actually are? And do you realize that I literally just got out of the hospital? Oh and another thing, I am sick! To death! Literally! Have you no sympathy!" The entire time, her mom was trying to calm her down. Then she said her sorry and moved in for a hug. "Don't you dare touch me! After all you've done? I, of course, accept your apology. But that does not change what you did. All of these 'friends' you invited? They're just sympathy friends. I haven't heard from them since high school. And when I did, our conversations weren't pleasant and forgivable. They never even apologized! So why the hell would they want to be friends now? Haven't you figured it out yet? They are fake! They only like me now because they pity me. They feel sorry for me. But I will not put up with it!" Lucy yelled, infuriated. "Okay, Lucy. I understand. But before you go, please eat something. The doctor at the hospital said you barely ate anything those five days. "Well, a home cooked meal does sound delightful. And I am starving. And don't feel nauseous for once in a long time. What did you cook?" Lucy suddenly changed her spirits. "Well, I made something healthy, which nobody likes, it appears. I made turkey burgers with flatbread and avocados. With sweet potato fries!" Said her mother, happily, because she knew Lucy loved when she made that very meal. "Ooh, you know me, yes you do!" "Dig in," her mother laughed. Lucy set her table down and started to nibble on her sweet potato fries. Sure enough, an old bully named Dawson came up to her and starting laughing in her face. "Lucy...oh, Lucy," Dawson laughed. "You may have everyone from our shit high school feeling bad for you, but I don't," said Dawson. "Good, Dawson. Thank you. That's what I want from everyone," Lucy said. "Oh my God, Lucy! I can see right through your fake ass! You may be fooling everyone else, but you're not fooling me!" Dawson laughed. "What are you talking about?" Lucy asked. "You don't cancer! Yes, you're sick. But it's not cancer. You're anorexic! And you're stealing all this attention from people who really are dying! You've always been an attention whore," said Dawson. "Oh really? That's funny. Because I can prove it!" As Lucy started to lift up her shirt to show Dawson her tube in her chest, another bully from school stopped her. Her name was Maliny. "Stop, Lucy. I have heard and seen enough! You don't need to prove anything to this bastard!" Yelled Maliny. Let's go talk. I have got a lot to say...starting with sorry. Lucy picked up her cat, Maisy, and Maliny looked at her in awe. "Aww what's her name?" Asked Maliny. "Maisy Lynne," said Lucy. "Oh my God, she is adorable... Can I hold her?" Asked Maliny. "Oh definitely. Maisy Lynne could always use more fans!" Maisy Lynne Noel was a black cat witj a brown tint to her. She was unusually fluffy, especially for a black cat who wasn't even Persian. She was the most beautiful thing you'd ever lay eyes on! All of a sudden, Lucy's memory flashes and races through the entire night until 5:37 a.m. She wakes up in a daze, clammy and feeling numb yet out of breath. Her breath starts to get shallower as she notices she was back in Arlen's bed and completely forgot about what happened or why she ended up there. Was this a dream? She wondered. When Arlen got back into the room he announced he had made her breakfast. "Arlen?" Lucy smiled. "Yeah, honey. It's me. Are you feeling alright?" Asked Arlen. "Yes...no...I don't know. Arlen, did you leave me? Or was I just dreaming? What happened last night? Oh my God..." Lucy was freaking out on the count of she clearly had no idea what the hell was going on. "Lucy. You don't remember?" Arlen asked. "I just don't remember what happened last night. The rest I do...maybe...should I remember? You did leave me, correct?" Lucy asked Arlen. "Yes, Lucy. I did leave you. But since you don't remember what happened last night, I will tell you... I went to your mom's because I was considering taking you back. I figured that me leaving you would just cause more stress on you. So once i got there, all hell broke loose. Apparently, the Dawson guy started a riot and burned down the house. Your mom's house. With you in it. Luckily I was there. Since nobody else cared. I called you to see where you were. I saw a random man running for his life out of the house. I asked him if he knew where you were. He had told me you were upstairs in your room. I went upstairs to get you and you were unconscious from all the smoke. So I brought you to my house and when you awoke, we talked. I'm so sorry I left you, Lucy. I only did because I thought it'd be best. For the both of us. Turns out I'm worse without you. Especially because every damn second of my life I'm thinking about whether you're still alive or not. Or in the hospital. Or even just missing me. Because, baby, I miss you so much. I should've never broke your heart. You are the most incredible miracle that has ever happened to me. If you could just reconsider..." Said Arlen. "Baby...why would you think that way? Of course I'll take you back. And...reconsider what? I've never doubted you. I love you so much!" Lucy exclaimed. "I love you, Lucy Noel. Now, I have your ring. Will you please take back the engagement?" Asked Arlen. "Of course, baby." Lucy said, as Arlen put back the ring on her finger. "Okay, Lucy. As long as we're together, we have to make a pact: live together love together. Do together, die together." Said Arlen. "What?! Arlen are you fucking insane?! I know what this whole 'pact' is about. We may live together, we may love together, we may do together, but we will NOT die together. I forbid it! You need to live! As long as you can!" Yelled Lucy. "So do you, Lucy Noel!" Arlen yelled back. "Well you know what? That might not happen! But you will not die for me!" Yelled Lucy. "I'm not dying for you, Lucy. I'm dying with you. It's only fair," said Arlen. "Arlen, it's only fair that you live on. Your life is more inportant than you think. And I know that mine is too. That's why I am spending it with the ones I love. And if I so end up going soon, I will go knowing that I was so loved and honored that my lover wanted a life in Heaven with me. That right there is already more than I need. I love you," said Lucy. "I love you too," smiled Arlen, tears rushing down his cheek.
