Haunting Page #2
Summer 24
Back in their room they both felt shudders take hold of their spines and gripping at their souls. They turned and walked slowly towards the chamber door - taking the icy doorknob in hand. Both of them opened the groaning door and peered outside in the darkness that immersed the hall; the only light flooding through from that cracked window. From that available light, they could both discern a silhouette of woman…a woman holding a sword. Fear began to grip at their throats tight, as they began trembling in their place, staring intently out towards the apprehending silhouette that draws ever closer. Stumbling back inside their room - they grabbed their threadbare bags; swung the door free, and jumped into the overwhelming shadows that began to swirl around - ensnaring them. The gravelly voice demanded they leave at once, before the falling of the final hour. Trying to create movement became useless, for the dense shadow decreased their movement, leaving them writhing on the floor. Fading red paint on the walls around them began to trickle dismally, glistening in the available moonlight. The forerunner to the group managed to escape…leaving his friend behind. He stood at the landing of the staircase, hoping for him to regain his composure and manage to escape. Upon turning, he found to his dismay that the figure behind his friend, had at that second plunged the sword through his soft and weary body; splattering blood on the already trickling walls. Without a second thought, he darted down the staircase, breaking through all but two steps with his heavy but swift movement - thinking…could this be the end?
