"Detected by the Camera" is a lesser-known work by Lucy Maud Montgomery, celebrated author of "Anne of Green Gables." Set against the backdrop of early 20th-century Canada, the story delves into themes of identity, perception, and the influence of technology on personal relationships. Through rich character development and Montgomery's signature lyrical prose, the narrative explores how a camera—symbolizing both a tool of connection and an instrument of truth—shapes the lives of its characters, revealing hidden emotions and secrets. This work exemplifies Montgomery's keen insight into human nature and her ability to weave compelling stories that resonate with readers.

His mother produced the pocketbook and the money--they had not dared to spend a single cent of it--and Mr. Carroll went home in triumph. Perhaps Ned Brooke ought not to have been let off so easily as he was, but his mother cried and pleaded, and Mr. Carroll was too kind-hearted to resist. So he did not punish them at all, save by utterly discarding the whole family and their concerns. The place got too hot for them after the story came out, and in less than a month all moved away--much to the benefit of Mapleton.
