A Winter Flower Blooming in Summer Page #2
During one of their usual arguments, she announced something that even she herself never thought she would dare to say. “I am divorcing you!” Xià Hu stood frozen in place, staring at her with eyes full of disbelief. “I am divorcing you!” she repeated. He snapped after hearing her words for the second time. He was infuriated. The Young Master raised his hand and slapped her hard enough that the force caused her to fall down. Yet that did not stop her. “I already informed my father! The permission with his signature will arrive soon!” Indeed, the divorce letters signed by Sect Leader Dōng arrived a week later. She was still thankful for the maids who helped her send a letter to her father in which she explained the mistreatment she received. She didn’t have to fear about a war breaking either, because the Summer Sect was at fault. The same day the letters arrived and the divorce was signed, she was allowed to return to her Sect along with her maids and disciples. On their way back, they stopped at a small village due to their lady feeling unwell. The disciples found an elderly woman who was a physician and more than willing to help them. After Dōng Huā got examined, the elderly woman faced her with a wide smile. “Congratulations! You’re pregnant!” Even though the pregnancy occurred from an unwanted marriage, she felt overjoyed. And she was even more excited to announce the happy news to her parents. Her mother never bore any sons, but if she were to birth one, then the Winter Sect would have an heir. They urgently proceeded with their journey before rumors could spread and reach the Summer Sect. But halfway through the road back, they were attacked by bandits. One of her maids and three of the disciples were killed. She ran to escape, but the bandits caught up with her. She was holding one of the disciples’ swords to defend herself, yet she didn’t know how to do it. She just made abrupt movements to scare the men away. Four disciples came running, and they were quick to kill the attackers before they could harm their young lady. After they ensured that she was okay, they helped her get on one of the horses and rode all the way back. Dōng Huā returned home, but she was not the same as when she left. She returned back as a free woman, as a mother. She matured. She was not the same spoiled child. She realized how grateful she should be for her life in her Sect, where she belonged.
